I do not prescribe opioids or other controlled substances in my practice. Instead, we will explore many other treatment options to help you regain important functions and to lead as active and healthy a life as possible. If you seek opioids, you will need to contact another practitioner willing to prescribe them.
I utilize a variety of diagnostic and treatment methods to accomplish treatment goals. After obtaining a thorough history, I will ask you to complete risk assessment questionnaires to screen for anxiety, depression, addiction potential, sleep disorders, and physical incapacity. Treatment options that I provide include osteopathic manipulation, trigger point injections, use of non-controlled medications and, in some cases, of controlled medications. I also provide nutritional, psychological, spiritual counseling, and energy healing methods.
I frequently refer my patients to colleagues whose assistance is essential to reach treatment goals. These include anesthesiologists, physiatrists, orthopedic and neurosurgeons, addictionologists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, psychiatrists, psychologists and psychotherapists, naturopathic physicians, and physical therapists. My treatment approach is integrative in that it treats mind, body, and spirit and utilizes various treatment modalities from conventional and complementary traditions.
I prefer that you acquire a primary care physician. I expect you to help me obtain your medical records from your primary care doctor and any other doctors who have treated you using controlled medications.
Here are just a few of the things I may ask you to provide for me in connection with my patient selection and treatment process:
(1) Get information from you and your doctors about your medical history and your past pain treatments, including a list of all medications you take and have taken to treat your pain
(2) Ask you whether you or anyone in your family has had a problem with alcohol, illegal drugs, legal drugs, or tobacco
(3) I will monitor your pain condition using several approaches. These may include family conferences, psychological consultations, regular monitoring of your functional status, pain levels, side effects of medications, and emotional well-being.
These methods are essential to ensure your safety. As my patient, we will have many opportunities to create the best treatment program for you to reach your functional goals and to get the most out of your life.
